Sandycove Acres

Ontario's Premiere Adult Lifestyle Community

Marie MacNeil

Life is a risk and that is just what Marie MacNeil took when moving to Sandycove Acres. She was living in Sydney on Cape Breton Island in Nova Scotia at the time and wanted to move up to Ontario after her husband died to be closer to her grown children. Marie’s son David who lives in Barrie told her about a wonderful place that he had heard about from friends.

David came to Sandycove, looked at a few homes for Marie and she purchased her home sight unseen, which she is still living in 7 years later. Marie moved to Sandycove to be closer to her family, yet she is so busy keeping up with all of the activities that she is never home when they call.

Marie is very content and comfortable with her life in Sandycove and has not regretted the move in any way. She is a people person who thoroughly enjoys the company of her many friends at all the functions that Sandycove can offer.

Marie is well known in the community for her generosity volunteering her time with Helping Hands, knitting for community charitable organizations including the new Hospice Centre opening in the Barrie area, and worked in the kitchen for the Ladies Social at the Wheel for 3 years. She enjoys singing with the Covettes, playing Darts on Wednesday nights, Bid Euchre Tuesday nights and with the ladies on Wednesday afternoons.

Marie enjoys her daily walks around the park, line dancing Monday and Wednesday mornings and using the well equipped exercise room at the Hub. She also took over the Winter Walking program held at the Wheel during the winter months when it is too cold to walk outdoors, and has been the instructor for the Aqua Fit program in the summer in the South Park Pool for the past 4 years.

When listing the things she is into, she didn’t realize she was so busy. When asked her what it is that keeps her a young 77, she says “it’s really hard to tell as she never acts her age!”

It is people like Marie MacNeil that make Sandycove Acres the Fun, Friendly place that it is.
